Change a Service commercial model
Convert or duplicate a Service when you need a different booking model without losing history or breaking Resources.
Some Services cannot safely change commercial model through ordinary editing. ServEase uses a guided Change Service model workflow instead.
Why in-place change is not always available
Commercial model describes how customers book (Appointment, Group/class, Rental, Overnight stay, Staffed Resource Service). Existing bookings, payments, and option semantics may not translate cleanly. The server evaluates your Service and returns one of:
- Convert in place — safe when there is no booking or payment history and configuration can transform explicitly
- Duplicate recommended — technically possible in place, but duplication is safer when options, timing, or capacity need significant review
- Duplicate required — history or incompatible configuration blocks in-place change
Convert vs Duplicate
| Action | Source Service | New Service |
|---|---|---|
| Convert in place | Model and capacity update on the same record | — |
| Duplicate | Unchanged | New internal/draft copy with target model |
Duplication never copies bookings, charges, payments, refunds, credits, subscription links, or booking snapshots. Promotions and operational timing may need review on the duplicate.
How to start
- Open Services → choose a Service → Edit service
- In Basics → Commercial model, choose Change Service model
- Select the target model (only valid combinations for your fulfilment and Resource category are shown)
- Review the server impact plan — blockers, copied, reset, and omitted sections
- Enter required capacity fields (for example Session capacity or maximum people per booking)
- Create duplicate or Convert Service when allowed
Duplicates start hidden (internal/draft) until you review readiness and publish.
Stale plans
If the Service changes after you load the plan (for example a new booking), execution returns a stale-plan error. Reload the impact plan and try again. No partial conversion is applied.
Resource safety
Changing or duplicating a Service never edits Bookable Resource attributes, locations, or ownership. Fulfilment type and Resource category stay fixed on the source Service.
